Life through my eyes

Shelter from the rain

With Jo and Beau in tow I met Dave the Book at the Sportsbikeshop in Filton where I had some helmets ready to try on as well as waterproofs! Opted for the slightly more expensive flouro yellow over the cheaper black ones.

The helmets were size small but still too big, so I tried on an XS in a different (premium) brand which felt great. The people in the shop there are all excellent and they did check properly for fit. They have ordered an XS in the mid range brand I originally chose. Nice as the Shoei helmet was I still prefer the Shark helmet as it has lights fitted to it, front and back. An accelerometer is linked to the back lights and act as brake lights, including when using engine breaking. So I will go back tomorrow and try it. Also I will be able to get a discount on an intercom which they will fit for me and Dave confirmed it will connect to his. It also connects to my phone for satnav and music (not so sure about listening to music while riding but I guess it depends on the circumstances).

Beau was very good, Jo was Jo and was saying how expensive it all was, and the salesman said no one ever sits in the back of an ambulance if they've had an accident and regretted buying decent kit, and Dave hasn't changed. We're planning a few rides around Kingswood in preparation for my mod 2 test on the principle that the more I know the roads (which is only from my bike training days) it leaves more brain capacity for the instant fails (forgetting a lifesaver, speeding, not cancelling a signal ...). My CBT runs out on 8th September and even though I have passed mod 1 and done all my training I still would have to pay another £160 and do the days training to renew it. I think the system is designed to make as much money as possible. And why a lot of the delivery drivers on L plates don't have a CBT.
