Three Trees at Tavira
Come away for a couple of days to Tavira in the eastern Algarve, for our wedding anniversary. Come early because it's over 40C (104F) in Mourão today. I wondered, as we wandered in the hot streets, whether anyone else had come to the Algarve for the cool.
The building on the right is the Princesa do Gilão, the simple hotel where we're staying - the Gilão is the river in front, which was the source of Tavira's importance in Roman times, and the cause of her decline when it silted up. Plenty of tourists are making her prosperous again.
Gratefuls:
- getting here safely, and being able to come away, and sleep in air con for a couple of nights
- gelato at Delizia da Ponte; just walk along the riverfront till you get to the Roman bridge and it's there in front of you, absolutely delicious
- the prospect of another day here; we've brought the kayak
