Swallowtail Caterpillar
It’s tiny! This creature is about the size of my fingernail, so around a half inch. I don’t know how I managed to spot it on the parsley in the petunia patch, but now that I know it’s there I have to look for it every couple of hours just because. There are little dots of caterpillar poop which help me locate it, and chew marks on the leaves. And there are at least two more babies that look like wiggly lines, barely anything there, but they are moving and munching and I intend to keep an eye on them as well. This is the second year that I’ve found larva in the same spot. It’s nice to know they return. While I was nosing around, a hummingbird kept buzzing me. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do if it tried to find something to eat in my hair, but it flew off before I had to do anything but grin.
