MONO MONDAY - STONE(S)

Good to know I am on theme again - even if I have more than one stone!

These are some of my rings - not that I wear a lot of jewellery, but first is my engagement ring, a sapphire stone surrounded by tiny diamonds - bought just along the road from where we now go to Church - at the beginning of 1967.  We were engaged for a year and got married on 6th March 1968, a Wednesday, so that our bridesmaid, who lived in Northern Ireland, could get a cheap flight over midweek!  We also bought my wedding ring in the same shop - a fairly wide gold band - with no stones, but made of 22 carat gold.  I loved it and wanted it, but didn’t realise that it would get scratched because the gold is quite soft - but it’s lasted well! ;-)

The second ring is an eternity ring, bought in 1969, a year after we were married.  It was all the rage then to have an eternity ring, so of course, I had to have one!  I don’t think these are diamonds, but nevertheless, I felt good wearing it with my wedding ring and engagement ring, but because of the shape of my engagement ring, it never sat quite right, so I don’t wear it that often.

There is a story behind the third ring - a gold and almandine garnet ring - bought for my 40th birthday in 1985 at another small jewellers, when we were visiting friends in Barnard Castle, County Durham.

According to Mr. Google, “almandine garnets enhance vitality, endurance, strength and security through its deep vibrational connections to the earth.  Apparently, it is an ideal stone to work with when feeling ungrounded, lacking in motivation or experiencing low energy” - who knew that?

I’m not into all that, but one day whilst in the library, and when taking my books to the counter, I noticed with horror that the middle stone of the ring was missing.  I went back to the places I had been in the library and then asked one of the assistants if they would make a note that I had lost the stone - and she said they would ask the cleaners to be extra vigilant that evening when they were cleaning.  I was quite upset, but was overjoyed a few minutes later, when taking my books out of the bag they were in, to see the middle stone nestling on top of one of the books!   How fortunate is that?  I took the ring to a local jeweller and they had to put “claws” over the stone to keep it in place, which is why it looks slightly different to the other stones and the way they are set in the ring.

So - my offering for Mono Monday - stone(s).

Now off to the Community Fridge to chat to some of our customers and then to help with the English Language class.  It is certainly much cooler today, which is a blessing.  Have a great week.  M xx
