Day 2 cycling Bavaria

After breakfast at our hotel, the Sheraton, we checked out, left our luggage and a man showed us to our Eurobike hire bikes, and gave us a book of instructions and map which we could put into the clear pouch of our handle bar bags. The weather looked rather ominous, and indeed it turned out to be awful. We cycled 86km mostly in heavy rain along cycle paths out of Munich and down along the Lake Starnberg which was edged with lovely posh properties, hundreds of boats moored, none on the lake, and no people around. It was so quiet, probably because of the rain. The cycling was partly on untarred roads through a forest, and I found this hard going, only travelling at 9km per hour according to my gadget! I also managed to mount a wet pavement and fall off my bike banging my shin very hard, which was very painful at the time! We eventually arrived in Murnau at our chalet hotel dripping wet through after 8 hours of cycling and having found no cafe on the way as they were all closed on Mondays (their ruhetag/day off). Just to top it all, our guest house hostess got muddled and thought we had booked bed & breakfast, when we had booked half board so we had no hot meal either! She cooked us ham and eggs, and later apologised for her mistake and gave us a refund. What a day! It can only improve....
