Portobello Beach Edinburgh Day 357
Our grandchild's first foray onto the sands at Portobello today after a wonderful outing to St Andrews yesterday. He was about to set about the challenge of eating what he thought was a giant golden cereal bowl so we had to return quickly to the promenade to try out the newly refurbished baby swings. He loved the beach. He loved the swings. He was less happy when he was suddenly serenaded by the wonderful Polish accordion player, Andzrej. We discovered that Andzrej splits his time between his beloved Portobello and his home in the Wroclaw region
where for historic reasons German is still widely spoken as the second language.
Last night I took my son-in-law to The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. I had not been to this world famous spectacle for over 30 years. I thought it was good then and the advances in high definition computer projection and the awesome resonance of the sound system enhanced enormously the sense of the spectacular that makes this pageant such as successful staple. (I suspect residents in the vicinity of the castle might have a different view!)
