Reflections at sunrise

I thought that as I'd had to get up so early yesterday, I could do the same thing today and get to Castle Hill for sunrise, and maybe capture some early morning light on the amazing rock formations that occur there.

It was a warm, nor'west morning, so nothing like as cold as I'd thought. Not cold enough for mist, which I'd half hoped for. With the high cloud, the colours were nice, even quite a while before the sun came up. The dirty pond in the foreground reflected the red light beautifully, which intensifed as the sun rose towards the horizon.

The sun shone briefly on the snowy mountains beyond the rocks, but by the time I'd climbed high enough for a clear view, the light was well gone. It stayed flat from then onwards, as the clouds thickened. Just as well I arrived early!

I have to thank pcc for some advice on cropping this image, and lightening the foreground. I think her suggestions have enhanced it considerably.
