Neck Extension
Laying eggs in the stones by the lake shore, a spiny softshell turtle sprays stones with her back legs to make a nest. Sometimes extending her neck and at others laying flat to the ground, it was quite a sight.
I tried to get closer for a better shot, but there's not much cover and unfortunately I scared her so she went back into the water. She moved really fast. They don't like human contact. I will have to be more careful.
I wanted to reduce the glare from her shell. Wondering whether a polariser might have helped.
These turtles can live to 50 years old and grow to a shell size of 20", so she's up there. Males are much smaller.
