Number147

Thursday

We arrived in Cairyan to find the Ferry was going to depart later than planned.

Police were "randomly" searching cars and occupants.

Unlike last year, Hetty now requires extra documents and checks to board the Ferry.

This man told us the police were carrying out searches because of the number of people travelling to Belfast for the marches. He referred to them as Rangers. Presumably supporting the Orange Order.

The extra is a pallet pile that'll be lit tomorrow. (Taken at some distance.) Supposedly at midnight but some say it'll be lit earlier. We've been advised to stay out of the city on Saturday. But I am intrigued.

We saw another, less impressive one after happening upon this one.

I have seen the one photographed by wrbradley and was surprised to find one remarkably similar.

I was approached and told I shouldn't take photographs. I said I was a tourist and had never seen anything like it before. Then they told me to photograph it from the other side because it looks bigger! I declined.

Anyway, our holiday cottage is delightful. Great sea view.

Go and check out wrbradley.
