MORECAMBE

RIP KNOTTMAN2 - THE END OF AN ERA INDEED.  I've just come back to my blip as I've only just discovered this very sad news, to say I'm gutted is an understatement.  He was a great blipper and I so looked forward to his blips and his comments on mine.

A lovely day today, both weatherwise and even a trip to Morecambe.

As we still have Robertsons from Grange coming in to get rid of the old carpet and put down new wooden flooring in our hallway and it's very noisy I decided to take Garron out today.

As the weather so nice I  just took him to Morecambe, simply because he loves the Old Pier Bookshop.  We set off early, 8.30 am simply because that is then the banging and drilling started!!.

We were in Morecambe by 9.30!!!  The Prom is always lovely to walk along and at that time of the morning reasonbly quiet.  There were no cafes opened yet so we thought we would treat ourselves to coffee at The Midland Hotel.  Boy has that place gone somewhat downhill.

It isnow owned by The Inn Collection and to me is now like a not so great Inn.  The exterior is still the beautiful Art Deco facade it's always been and the  fabulous staircase too.  Now there is no proper Reception, just someone behind "The Bar".  Also at the momet they are having the roof repaired to the veranda - the room with a very long wall of glass looking out over The Bay.  Normally this is wonderful but with scaffolding everywhere, filthy dirty windows, due to the repairs.  The whole place though is now really just a not so great Inn with rooms.  Even once that work has finished it's not going to be as good as it once was - no longer the fabulous hotel featured in a Poirot story.

Still to be fair the cappucino was lovely and frothy and Garron enjoyed his hot chocolate and toaste teacke and the staff very friendly and helpful.

After that I took him to a small stall of crystals etc just outside The Market and then onto the Old Pier Bookshop. How that place hasn't been hauled by Health and Safety I'll never know, the whole thing is only held up with thousands and thousands of books.  Mind you it does make a fun place to explore as there are so many nooks and crannies all with books, magazines, cards etc filling up every conceivable space and more.  If you are a book addict then it's a haven.  A load of tat in there of course but you can find the odd treasure and of course one man's tat is another's treasure of course.

Whilst Garron was in the bookshop I just went onto the beach with my camera and had a lovely half hour all to myself taking a few photos, trying to give the mojo a good kicking.

I was very glad I applied the Factor 50 this morning because although it didn't feel particularly hot that sea breeze would still turn me bright red and I could feel it as I walked along the beach!!

It was now a bit busier but not too bad as schools don't break up until this Friday (groan, for us but great for the families!).

We then went to Beetham Nurseries for a light lunch and a browse then home again by 2.00pm.  Still pleasantly warm - although it's going to get hotter by the weekend,  dreading that but will stay indoor trying to keep the place as cool as possible.

I do wish the powers that be would invest in Morecambe, and many other seaside towns like it.  Now so run down but could be offering so much for breaks and holidays etc. There are some amazing places and let's face it Morecambe Prom has one of the best views in the country.

That's all from me for today, do take great care and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.  I'm now going to catch up with all your blips.
