Glyndebourne
I was trying to take the most Ur Glyndebourne photo ever but realised that I would prefer to have a picture of V posing in his hat on our arrival. I have never been before but a generous friend gave V a voucher as a birthday present so we went all in.
The weather was not the dreamy sunlit version of Glyndebourne I was hoping for as the showers were long and quite chilly, at least whilst I stood outside in a thin top under the tiny umbrellas provided.
We were to see Saul, an impressive revival of a staging of a Handel oratorio that originated in 2015 (or so). It was extremely good. Powerfully and wittily staged with superb singing … and choreography. We loved it. We also loved the 90 minute interval picnic which was delicious, we ordered one of theirs which was pricey but as we didn’t know the form seemed worth doing. They seated us on a covered terrace as it was still showery but we managed a walk afterwards around the gardens which were lush and curiously exotic in their planting.
Long drive home but back in the house by 10.
