Flesh fly
This little critter caught my eye today. With those red eyes it was unusual, especially in our garden. I have since identified it as a flesh fly, the larvae of which feed on dead animals. The adults are also attracted to rotting meet and animal droppings.
I'm sure there was no meat left after our last barbecue so I can only think dead skink or snail. Also, as Sika is still not allowed out, other cats sometimes get into the garden and may leave their mark, as it were.
Apart from all that, I was happy to find a tiny critter today, considerately placing itself near some marigolds that match its eyes.
Edit: I just got a message saying this is my 2000th blip. That went quick! Thank you loyal followers and all you diligent folk who keep this terrific site moving along. Blip is a great community whose members' common interest in photography provides a gateway to a diversity of lives all over the world. You're all legends. Xxx
