Life with The Pinks

We've had a great day. We've been to Abberton Reservoir for a family fun day, in the rain and with Grandma!

It was raining really heavily on the way to the reservoir, and we were getting slightly concerned that it would be rained off. But when we got there it was drizzling but not too awful. We headed out onto the reserve to do a nature quiz, which taxed our brains a little but was very interesting.
We then went back to the education room and made a family tree of life! We collected up lots of materials from outside, in greens and browns, and then stuck them onto a tree template. Well I say we, Grandma and I stuck them on while the mini pinks "supervised". But it was very pretty afterwards and it's now on our kitchen wall.

A picnic lunch followed (inside). that gave the mini pinks enough energy to do a hidden Caterpillar tree walk. We had to find some knitted caterpillars in trees and then match up the tree leaf to a chart. We got them all right. Go team Pink!!

When we had finished the tree recognition, we went down to the pond, where the mini pinks did some pond dipping. We caught two sticklebacks, and lots of little snails along with boatmen and other creepy crawlies. We also nearly lost the net twice!!

The day finished with marshmallow toasting over the bonfire. That was good, the mini pinks each had a marshmallow on a stick of willow, and they both really enjoyed doing it.

After all our activities, we finished off in the park. It's not just any park, it's a truly awesome park. It's essentially an obstacle course, but it's all done with natural materials and mimics the nature you can see on the reserve. there is a climbing frame which resembles a huge tree trunk, and a den which looks like a bees nest, and carved animals to climb over. It was one of the highlights for Master Pink!!

Grandma treated us all to cake and a cuppa after the park. A perfect way to end a really great day.
