‘And the world was a song,
And the song was exciting.’

I Dreamed a Dream : Les Miserables
English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer based on original French libretto by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel
We had a message from the airline saying there were expected to be delays as a result of some issues with scanning? So we arrived early at the airport to check in. For some reason our bags were not checked in for hold luggage (they had been on the way out). So we took our bags through security, unfortunately we had some liquids in there which we hadn’t considered (as the bags were anticipated to be going in the hold) so we had to open up our bags for security, and of course one of them was over the 100ml limit so had to be left behind. We were still through to the departure lounge in good time, and it looked surprisingly busy. Then we found out why, there were delays on a few flights out. Not long afterwards our flight was posted as delayed, and delayed, and further delayed. Four hours later we were still optimistic, but by hour five it was cancelled. No more flights to Bristol today so a quick call to the hotel secured us a room for the night and a kind fellow traveller offered us a lift back into town, so before long we were back at our hotel and heading out for a few more hours exploring St Peter Port, namely Candie Gardens and the colourful gardens there, with the statue of Victor Hugo – French author, poet, essayist, playwright, journalist, human rights activist and politician - looking out over the port where he spent years in exile on Guernsey.
