Donnington Castle

Every day is a journey, and the journey itself is home.

A relaxed start to my journey across to Surrey for the event tomorrow. First stop at Swindon to pay respects to a friend from University days, then on to Donnington Castle for a break and meditation. A short steep uphill path and as I walked up a Red Kite swept low overhead, brilliant view of it but not long enough to get my camera into action. Carried on to The Vyne, just outside Basingstoke, for a late lunch. Disappointing lack of food available but then I didn’t arrive until 3pm and the house was about to close (but not the grounds) so I had to settle for coffee and so-so cake. Another stop at Odiham Castle after a short canalside walk then time to get on to Shere in Surrey. Getting a bit lazy and maybe tired  and relied on the SatNav which took me via the M3 and M25 – plotting a course myself would have been a better option! Eventually bit the bullet and got off the M25 (slow moving queues of traffic) and headed for Guildford then navigated myself (with SatNav as backup) towards the destination. Eventually found my B&B for the night in delightful Surrey hills, more Kites and Kestrels to entertain me over supper outside before the cloud and light rain moved in for the night.
