Pools of shade
A warm night, despite open windows and fan on the temperature didn't drop. The hound remained downstairs all night where it was cooler.
Up walking the hound at 5.30. The air was refreshing. Back home just headed back to bed to nap. It was too early to go to the market.
Hurried round the market and supermarket. By the time I arrived back home I was pretty hot. Wanting to peel my skin off hot.
The removal company has dropped off some boxes. Packed a couple and stored them in the garage. Will have to wait for a slight temperature drop to carry on.
Boiled some eggs to have with salad this evening, may make devilled eggs later. Not a great idea as it raised the temperature. Did get me thinking that when we move the induction hob will be a boon on hot summer days.
Now the hound and I are in the living room vegging out with the fan on.
Listened to Radio 4's Curious Cases this afternoon with Hannah Fry and Dara Ó Briain called Clever Crows.
Corvids fascinate me. One time walking on the recreation ground with my previous greyhound I spotted a crow with a black mass. It was pulling something out if the mass. My initial thought was oh no, its eviscerating a blackbird. But what it was pulling wasn't red but also black. Hoping to get a better look without scaring the bird away I approached the bird. However I still managed to frighten it and it flew away which gave me the opportunity to get a good look. The black mass turned out to be a pair of balled gloves. The crow had been pulling the fingers out. It's a memory which has stayed with me.
On these hot days I've been enjoying a chilled coffee in the afternoon. I prepare it at lunchtime and a couple of refrigerated hours later it's a pleasant mid-afternoon refreshment.
Egg salad and fruit and ice cream to follow for dinner.
At least we're not experiencing Southern Europe's high temperatures.
Stay cool and hydrated everyone.
