Summer Afternoon at Whipple Dam
“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” ~ Henry James
Milestone: first swim of this summer at Whipple Dam.
So far, we've swum at Canoe Creek, Bald Eagle State Park, Greenwood Furnace, and now Whipple Dam.
The water was delightful but not nearly as cold as Greenwood Furnace. It was rather deserted when we arrived but it was getting much more active by the time we left. Above is a view of the spillway. The water was perking along pretty good!
There were a few cicadas, but mostly just wings on the ground. I spotted two small turtles swimming near the accessible fishing pier on the other side of the lake, where we parked my car. Also several butterflies, including one of the fritillaries and a northern pearly-eye (which is not familiar to me).
You may see the butterflies and some other views of the lake in my Instagram set. Enjoy!
Our soundtrack song is Gordon Lightfoot, with Summer Side of Life.
