I think I need a brake
Today was time to see about getting the new brake disc onto Fidra's back wheel. Taking the wheel off wasn't something I'd done before, and I wouldn't care to do a task like this at the side of the road. Frankly I wouldn't care to have to do it ever again.
For one thing, whoever did all the bolts up last time did them all far too tight. You do know there are actually things called "torque wrenches"? I even have two of them, for crying out loud. Second, whoever installed the brake disc last time used the wrong threadlocking compound and it was nearly a disaster when the bolt heads started to round themselves. The application of a big hammer, a big wrench and my precision hex bits eventually did the job but good grief it was close and nearly put the kibosh on the whole endeavour.
Getting the machine apart and put back together took me six hours, which is probably why I'm not a professional mechanic, although in fairness I also had to use my tap and die set about 20 times to clean up all the corroded screw threads.
After all that I was utterly exhausted, so conked out on the settee with a huge cup of tea, then went for a long hot shower and then put my feet up.
