Merak
On This Day In History
2003: Academy Award winning actress Audrey Hepburn dies at age 96
Quote Of The Day
"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others. For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness. And for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."
(Audrey Hepburn)
Yesterday, I learned a new English word from Sara Evans; quotidian. In the spirit of "pay it forward," I offer "merak," a Serbian word that means "the feeling of bliss and the sense of oneness with the universe gradually accumulated from the simplest of pleasures."
I have been intending to visit this local cafe for quite some time; On This Day In History and Blipfoto told me this should be the day. What a feeling of merak I enjoyed while drinking my Moon River lemonade drink and reading my book in the air conditioned comfort of the cafe.
Audrey Hepburn is loved by everyone in the Esper household and she is still extremely popular in Japan. And deservedly so. It occurs to me that if all the world's leaders began each morning by watching Audrey Hepburn sing Moon River and then listen to her say, "Hi," quite possibly there would be no more wars. If ever merak has been encapsulated in a single syllable word, Audrey Hepburn's "Hi," is that word.
"We're after the same rainbow's end,
Waiting round the bend."
Moon River
