Return to the Blues
A trip to Llandudno allows for a return visit to the Great Orme and another search for Silver Studded Blues. G scorns my optimism; it’s blowing a hooley today - it seems too windy even for the usual West Shore windsurfers - so the chances of any tiny butterflies being about seems slim. I carry on regardless, leaving G in the car!
At first glance, there’s nothing to be seen, but soon I spot a few. Those that are about have found themselves shelters close to the ground and seem to be hanging on for dear life - they’re so tiny and fragile it’s easy to see how they’re no match for the gusts that come up from the sea. I’ve brought my 200mm lens, but find my shorter lens works better - even if it does involve me getting into contortions on the ground with strange looks from passers by!
I’m amazed to find one actually lands on a blade of grass and clings on while it blows back and forth in the wind. Carefully, I take hold of the stem to keep it reasonably still so there’s some chance of photography - my main today, with a few alternate views in extras.
