Meandering Merlin

I lost Merlin in the meadow this morning. The grass is so tall that I can’t see him as he roams through it following scents, and likewise he can’t see me. Every so often I call him and wave my arms and he jumps on his hind legs to check my whereabouts. This happened as usual but he must have mistaken my position and thought I’d taken another route. He was missing for about 25 minutes - it seemed an age.

Eventually a kind dog walker who I’d spoken with came walking across the meadow with Merlin on a lead. Apparently he’d been wandering just inside the entrance to the field eating thistles! After many thanks being given to the lady and a long drink of water by Merlin we walked home, with Andy who by this time had appeared to help me. What a relief Merlin was okay.

Afterwards I spent a couple of hours at the parched allotment, watering weeding and picking the last of the strawberries and the first of this year’s blueberries.

The sorrel in the meadow is now a rusty red colour. It stands out so clearly amongst the yellow grasses.
