Empty
There's a poignant song called Old Friends on my favourite Simon and Garfunkel album, Bookends. 'Old friends sat on a park bench like bookends'. These benches at the Field of Remembrance in Windlesham were empty when I parked up to take a walk on my way back from this morning's care meeting at my friends' place in Sunningdale. The song is a paean to the bonds of friendship enduring through the frailty of ageing. Perhaps next time I see these benches, or any park benches for that matter, I will see old friends sat reminiscing.
