Ynys Llanddwyn

TUESDAY

After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel and made our way to the Neolithic burial chamber at Barclodiad y Gawres. We parked at Cable Bay and walked the short distance whist watching a handful of surfers out riding the waves.

Next stop: Newborough Forest, where we walked 6 km to the tidal island of Ynys Llanddwyn to see the ruins of St Dwynwen’s Church, the lighthouse (main photo), and the views across to the mountains of mainland North Wales. On the beach, approaching the island we  stumbled across a filming of House of the Dragon (see extra).

Before heading home, we made one last stop at Bryn Celli Ddu—a late Neolithic (c. 2000 BC) henge with a ditch and stone circle, and a burial mound accessed via a narrow passage (extra).
