YOU RANG M'LAIRD

Garron wanted to go into Kendal today to go to the Oxfam and Lions Bookshops, WHSmith (yes Kendal still has one, for now) and some Building Society business he needed to sort out.

After sorting out the Building Society stuff and being bombarded with information we went to Farrers for a restorative coffee (hot chocolate for him).  Then did the bookshops and WHSmiths.

It was fairly quiet but started getting busier as we came away about midday.

We wondered what to do about lunch and decided we hadn't been to The Netherwood Hotel for a couple of years now.  We used to visit quite a lot.  They do open for lunch to non-residents and I discovered today that if you are a local resident, and can prove it - in my case a driving licence) then you get a 15%d discount.

It was very quiet but it was rather lovely.  They've changed the bar area a bit, for the better I think as it's now set up properly for lunches rather than low slung chairs and coffee tables so you used to have to balance on your knees.  Now you get a proper table, but as the chairs were a bit low I needed a cushion - still it was very lovely. The good thing about it all, the food was good (not amazing but fine), service was very good, it's quiet, very attractive and the toilets are lovely.  Job done for us.

Now we are just back home chilling for the afternoon.

ADDED NOTE:  Those of you local to me might be surprise to hear that Barton Grange Garden Centre is up for sale!!!  Apparently the Topper family have decided to sell now, but they are keeping the Marina and Flower Bowl.  I believe they are in discussions with The Blue Diamond Garden Centre group, so hopefully it will still stay a goo garden centre but it must be a worrying time for all staff.
