Grumpy Old Man

A lot of effort!

A rather dull and damp day today and I’ve barely been outside. I’ve been slogging on with my London pictures and walk descriptions, which may take a long time for very little reason, but as somebody said, if you like doing it then that’s a good reason for doing it!

Later on in the afternoon I went outside for a while to get some air and do some gardening, but within 20 minutes it began to rain. Typical! So rather an EB today - a blackbird’s nest!

A couple of months ago a pair of blackbirds began to build a nest in a windblown honeysuckle which had come down on to the greenhouse when the fence blew over. Every time I went in and out of the greenhouse for a couple of weeks I could see one or other of them sitting on the nest. Then for some reason it was abandoned. Later on another, or maybe the same pair, built a nest in a clump of Lithodora diffusa  ‘Heavenly Blue’, which was hanging down the bank opposite the kitchen window. We saw them flying in and out for another few weeks, then they appeared to abandon it.  Peering in I could see two eggs there. Then another nest appeared to be constructed in a shrub on the other side of the house, but I don’t know whether they followed that up or not.

Anyway, yesterday I decided to cut back the fallen honeysuckle as I need to get the fence reinstated, and found the nest - such a lot of work for nothing! My Blip today.
