Together
Diana - Richard's sister - has been a widow for the last few years; Jim (her husband) died suddenly after a period of frailty. They'd been married since they were teenagers.
Recently we've noticed a few references to outings and meals with a new chap: Matt, a local farmer. They met at a New Year's Eve do, though they quickly realised that they had friends in common, as well as many interests.
So of course we've been keen to meet Matt. And also to meet Cindy, one of his collies who's not able to become a working dog; she'll be coming to live with Diana soon, and D takes her out for a walk most evenings.
This evening we went up to his farm together, up in the hills a few miles outside Larne.
What a lovely visit. It was immediately apparent that D and M are very contented in each other's company. In the main image, Matt and Diana are putting Cindy's lead on; she's quite a nervous dog, though she's already settling with Diana. I like the sense of ease between them here, as well as Cindy's trusting look towards Diana. The extra is a shot that they asked me to take, inside a stable where we were looking at a mother hen and her chicks. However, I wasn't quick enough off the mark with my settings, and the light was poor. So it's here as a nice reminder, and a prompt to make another, better image later in the week.
We sat in Matt's living-room, in front of a glowing woodburner, for a while. Matt, in his early 80s, is still a full-time working farmer. His grown-up children and their partners are farmers too, so there's a large extended family network in the area. It was a real delight to hear about it all.
