Where in the World...is Timbuktu?!

Where in the World is Timbuktu?! Timbuktu is often used as an expression when trying to describe the most remote, distant part of the world. Many people, including myself until not so very long ago, do not realize that Timbuktu is an actual city, located in Mali on the southern fringes of the Sahara Desert. (Go large to see more detail.)

But now with satellite maps and programs such as Google Earth, Timbuktu is clearly visible and more well-known. The maps from Mali may not be quite as detailed as those in Canada, but nonetheless, Timbuktu shows up clearly. I am constantly amazed at the advances being made, and the detail that can be seen from the satellite maps, e.g. the Canadian Parliament Buildings in Ottawa shown here.
