Heat
The most dedicated walkers among us decided to switch the Monday walk to 9 am instead of 2 pm. As you can see there were not many takers, and within 15 minutes we were complaining about the heat. After several stops in patches of shade to glug water, we decided to shorten the planned route and managed a small loop of 3.5 kilometres in just under an hour. After discussion we concluded that we should either set out half an hour earlier, or switch to self-directed aquarobics when the pool opens in just over a week. Fair enough, but I think I'll stick to swimming!
A tepid shower when I got home, and skulking in the house for the rest of the day, though we did join the natterers on the bench outside for an hour in the late afternoon. We were in the shade, and a bit of breeze made it bearable. At least until a malicious pigeon splatted a well-aimed load onto S and Jeannot, who swore he would get his revenge by eating it (the pigeon, that is ...).
Book group yesterday evening -- by skim-reading I managed to finish The Plot Against America 10 minutes before I had to leave for the meeting. It's fair to say that everyone else liked it better than I did, even if we all agreed that the ending was just dreadful. Anyway, it was lovely to see everyone before our summer break, and it was a very lively discussion.
