Remembering Matthew.

Another long walk this morning, more strenuous than yesterday’s.
We were at Lizard Point, the furthest Southerly point in the British Isles.
It takes us past the lighthouse on the coastal path, and then a fairly steep incline down to the huge rocky outcrops by the edge of the sea.
Each year I collect rose petals from the garden and dry them.
They are carefully saved ready for us to take with us and gently let them fall in to the deep fissure of a rock we chose 19 years ago to pour our 30 year old son’s ashes. We made the long journey from home along with his brother and his young wife Heidi, having all decided we loved the thought of taking them there as it is a place where we had many enjoyable family holidays over the years.
Now it is just the two of us. (Photo of Stephen in extras)
After visiting the rock again this morning and having some moments of reflection, we climbed back up the steep incline back to the coastal path.
Me with my one crutch again. A necessary precaution!
As I reached the path I realised once again that there was no pain!
I was in tears at this point last year, and had to sit on a bench for a bit.
It made me feel so exhilarated!
Some lunch was partaken at the Wave Crest café, which is sited just up the cliff from the Most Southerly Point café which sadly has closed.
It belongs to the National Trust and so far there is no information available as to it reopening at all.
After lunch we drove to our favourite cove, Poldhu, and sat awhile by their beach café with a coffee watching the tide coming in, with all the usual kinds of activities you see, children digging in the sand, people swimming in the sea, sunbathers and passing walkers, taking a break from the SW Coastal route for awhile.
I am avoiding mentioning the news, but we are all so very much aware of it,
