Tilbury Cruise Terminal

This is where the Empire Windrush docked in 1948 with the first migration of West-Indians to Great Britain.

Today we set of for a 12 day trip to Iceland and the Northern Isles on the Marco Polo. We travelled on this ship 10+ years ago to Scandinavia and the Baltic, so a quick reckie once on board to remind ourselves of the layout.

We had the mandatory passenger lifeboat drill. Interesting to see that the procedure is much more thorough these days, we even know which life boat is “ours” in the event of trouble!! No complacency here.
