Far North

A full tour day where we travelled to the northern isles of Yell and Unst. Just before we boarded the ferry between Tost (Shetland mainland) and Ulsta (Yell) we stopped briefly for a look at Sullom Voe oil terminal (extra 1). Much reduced since its peak in the 80s but still in use. On Yell we visited the Old Haa Museum (not pictured). Then we continued on to Unst via the much shorter Gutcher to Belmont ferry. Lunch was provided for us and another coach party at Baltasound Hall. A short walk away is the most northerly Post Office (main). As expected there are many other most northerly things, like a fish and chip shop, postbox etc etc. We then headed up to the old Saxa Vord radar station (extra 2) from which you can see all the way to the North Pole (maybe). Back at sea level at Brookpoint we had a look at a replica Viking long house and Skidbladner, a replica longship (extra 3). Then back to Lerwick via Sandwick beach and a couple of other little detours. Hotel kept the restaurant open for us as we were late returning.
