Warkwarth Castle and summer solstice...
After all our gallivanting this week we had a more leisurely day today. Later to breakfast (9.30am instead of 9.00am :-) with an extra cuppa and a pain au chocolat just for the hell of it :D
We headed to Newbiggin Maritime Centre thinking we might have lunch there but the cafe was full. We continued to Amble via Lynmouth where we found an unexpected little cafe attached to a sort of curiosity shop and had lunch there. D's warm goat's cheese salad and my coronation chicken salad were delicious. We had a wander round the shop part afterwards and discovered lots of strange things for sale (one in extras) and a quirky little outside area to have lunch, also in extras (yes you could sit in the caravans)
I had just taken the pic of the outdoor space when the heavens literally opened and staff came running from the cafe to grab the seat cushions. At the same time a customer in the cafe dashed outside for close the roof on his TVR, just a few moments too late. It was soaked! A few minutes later the rain stopped and steam was rising from the tarmac.
We headed into Amble town centre as I wanted to have a wander round the little retail pods at the harbour but rain was threatening again, so we decided to head back to the hotel and chill.
Once back D went for a swim in the spa pool and I read my book whilst enjoying a latte from the bar.
Once again dinner was superb and the staff in the restaurant so efficient and friendly. D has the waitresses fawning all over him. He was offered two bread rolls this evening! All I've managed is a couple of winks and a smile from an octogenarian guest who reminds me of Young Mr Grace from *Are You Being Served!!! lol!
After dinner blue skies and sunshine had returned so we sat in the garden for a while. A rumble of distant thunder sent us back inside and the rumbling continued getting louder but didn't quite make it overhead.
Can't believe today is the longest day already, and tomorrow is our last day here.
