Demolition

The consequences of that terrible, terrible fire that destroyed this beautiful sandstone building and claimed the life of one man last weekend is that it has to be immediately demolished as it’s unsafe. Fifty people have lost everything. Thankfully the fire service was there so quickly (happened early hours of Saturday morning) after being alerted by two policeman on patrol in the city centre. People were at their windows and being rescued by the cherry picker type thing from the fire engines. One minute fast asleep, next minute scrambling for their lives. One young lady was very lucky that she wasn’t in her flat that night as she thought she would have died as it was her next door neighbour that sadly died.

There has been a wonderful rally round the victims by the people of Perth. The Salutation Hotel was mobilised initially for the people from the flats and donations of everything they needed was quickly given. The Council took control of everything that needed sorted out and have given regular updates via social media of what is needed for the people, the road closures, re routing of buses , businesses affected by the closures. The Royal Bar was a popular pub on the corner of this building. It will be no more.

We went to Cafe Tabou for breakfast and then picked up some bit and pieces for the holiday. No need to get Swedish kroner as my friend was there recently and she said that it’s almost cashless now in Sweden . Good, as it’s different with the euros as can spend them in different countries.

A walk later and cleaning as Laura is staying here for four nights with Lucca.
