Down by the river
I was out until 2am over at Buttermere then Ullswater trying to get a shot of the milky way, the moon was ok and although there is only a short period of dark skies this time of year. Various weather apps said clear skies, - that was my mistake.. And so back home , camera not even out of bag and 3 hours less kip.
This morning Jess was thrashing herself at the sports centre with a yoga/Pilates/spin extravaganza. I headed off to the River Eden in hope of a Kingfisher.
The Eden is slow moving at Langwathby, the banks are silt/mud and there is some dense vegetation, I picked my way through and there was a flash of blue, not quick enough for a kingfisher, I thought it might be some exotic butterfly, whatever it was it was gone.
Continuing through the vegetation all became clear. There were a number of Damselflies which appeared to enjoy this area.
I got shots of what I thought were two different species, only when home did I find out they are in fact female (blip) and male (extra) Banded Demoiselles . Never seen one before, their flight was more like the fluttering of a butterfly which lead to my confusion initially.
