Sunday Fun

A relaxing Sunday in Dad and Sabine’s house. With a humid heat outside, I’m beginning to realise that this is a very different climate to the Africa I know on the east. I do not see this being a very outdoors lifestyle but I’ll wait and see. I’m lucky to be staying with them here for my first two weeks. Sabine’s meals are delicious, the house is cool and comfortable and there is plenty space for me to do my own thing, for sorting my bags and belongings and to prepare myself for the upcoming independence. I’m safe and relaxed and in a good frame of mind to start the new job. Phaethon returned to Lagos this afternoon and Dad, Sabine and I settled in the living room with an afternoon movie, the AC on full and a jug of Molloy Pimms...!

I’m off to see inside my new school tomorrow with Kimberley and to get ‘kick-start’ training before I’m thrown in at the deep end on Friday. I’m yet to set up a phone, but will get myself a sim card soon. Internet is accessible through a USB stick, which I’m told I’ll pay monthly and have a comfortable amount of data to do e-mails and a daily blip. For now, I borrow Dad’s for five or ten minutes an evening to get a snapshot of news from life back with friends and family.

This is Oga himself, clearly just before he opened his work e-mails…at his beautiful bar. They have made this house very much a home over the past few years. He will fly back to Lagos in the morning and return at the weekend. I have a feeling this week will be one of early mornings and early nights for both Sabine and I.
