Black Calla Lilly ( Zantedeschia sp)
A coffee and cake run with Kanyl. We went this time to Dobbies. We had to take the "scenic" route i.e. a country road. The junction we would need to leave by on the M6 is closed for a couple of weeks. Even if that had been open the road from Durdar to Dalston was closed.
The first thing my eye fell on as we entered the display area was a display of Calla Lilies. There were reds and yellows but the really outstanding one was this black. It may not look it in the shot but it was without exception the darkest black flower I have ever seen. The suppliers were a bit coy about what is was called, the label read "Calla mix". Mix seems to be a very popular plant name going by the labels I read in garden centres. Everything from tiny succulents through insectivorous plants, foliage plants to the callas seems to give the varietal name "mix".
Incase anybody is in any doubt my rant about mix is just that a rant about poor labeling by professional horticulturalists.
