Rock That Body
Well, this would appear to answer the question “what shall I do with that spare guitar neck I blipped on Monday?”
To be fair, I think I was the only one asking that question and it was probably also a mistake to type “black Strat body” into the eBay search box after posting that blip.
But then, in amongst all the fancy brand new guitar bodies costing well over £100, I spotted this “fully loaded” example for about half the price of the new ones. I impulsively pressed the “buy it now” button and two days later it’s on my doorstep. Pretty impressed with speed of delivery, I do have to say.
Obviously, the closest it’s been to Fender’s California factory is when the boat carrying the original guitar to the U.K. left Shanghai, but it’s in pretty good nick and the hardware looks new. I’ll probably strip it down for a closer examination, and to give it a good clean, then mate it to the black neck. A few extra bits of hardware and a decent set up should see it ready to move on, hopefully recouping most of my costs.
Which will bring me back to the original project guitar. And, after some consideration, I’m going to save time and money by not repainting it. The gold colour is starting to grow on me, and some appropriately coloured hardware should result in what I would term a “Blingcaster”
Whether that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen…
