An ordinary life....

Low Newton-by-the-Sea

A small fishing village overlooking Embleton Bay with the skeleton of Dunstanburgh Castle in the background. Beautiful.

We always like the first day of a holiday to be fairly relaxed so after a delicious breakfast we went for a drive along part of the Northumberland coast.

Started in Beadnell and found the cottage we will be staying at in December with our best pals Agnes and Adrian. It’s lovely and within walking distance of a very lovely pub and a bistro. Don’t think the weather will be sunny and 23 degrees then though :-))

From there we carried on to Low Newton, Dunstan, Craster and Warkworth, before ending in Amble. We had planned to have lunch at Lily’s Landing but forgot it’s closed on a Tuesday.

Instead we went to the Old Boathouse with D fancying some fresh seafood for lunch. Unfortunately within a few minutes of being seated I felt unwell. It was the strangest thing. Felt warm and slightly shaky and nauseous. The place was busy and lively but I just wanted to get outside. Apologised to the lovely, if slightly bewildered waitress and left.

Once outside I felt a little better. Drank some water then we went for a wander at the harbour. The fresh air helped. Decided to head back to the hotel.

I felt much better when we got back. We sat in the morning room and D ordered a cream tea (two scones!) but had coffee instead. I ordered tea and ate half of one of his scones. It was lovely and light and much enjoyed.

We moved out to the garden and sat in the sunshine chatting, reading and listening to the birds. Bliss.

Now back inside and I feel absolutely fine. Don’t know what that was all about!

Going to freshen up and head to the cocktail bar for a wee aperitif before dinner. Having had no lunch, we’re definitely ready for it!

A wee collage in extras.
