A Day in the Life of a Tourist

We may not have had a full day of blue skies and sunshine but I have had a full day of activity. There was no early swimming today because the tide was very low and to fill the gap I caught the bus to Kirkwall to buy a few things, visit the Cathedral without the company of hordes of tourists off a cruise ship (a cruise ship free day!) and have a coffee. The good weather in Kirkwall didn’t transfer to Stromness which was grey and drizzly when I returned-  a bit disappointing.

Things changed by the time the selkies met for a swim at 2pm. Suddenly the sun came out and we had a lovely swim with a lot of people taking advantage of the high tide.
I just had time to shower before being whisked off by Wendy my new Orkney daughter to visit the Ring of Brodgar and then on for an  ice cream at Stenness and a visit to Happy Valley where most of the photos were taken. This was a new place for me and a well kept secret. I loved that it was such a little quiet, shady haven in an altogether different landscape . All we could hear was the babbling (I can’t think of a better word) of the little stream close by and birdsong.
