Time for another photo of Basil

Getting warmer. Not good to trawl Basil round the streets when pavements are hot. Besides he tires on his walks these days.

Today I put him in the Basil-mobil, yet to be photographed, to take him up to opposite Armstrongs' Mills where John the plantman has set up his wares. I wanted another plant to put in the trough out front.

Compared to photos I've seen on Facebook, his stall is looking a bit sparse. When you consider he's been selling Spring and early Summer plants, it's probably not surprising. It must be getting close to the end of the planting season. I found a variegated Impatiens, no petunias on offer.

At this point, I'd got Basil out of the carrier where he'd been getting somewhat restive and decided that we both needed rest and refreshment. We went into The Bottom Railway, the pub where the plantman puts out his plants (extra). I showed Basil the water, which he shunned but I thoroughly enjoyed my double G&T. Mild surprise at our entry but we all got over that. For a town that used to boast the most pubs per head of population, Len and I have frequented very few. The Top Railway is 100 yards up the road. Both pubs were opened close to the old Shepshed rail station, which no longer exists.

Basil walked all the way back home. I planted the Impatiens (Busy Lizzie) straightaway.
