The best laid plans…..sometimes have to change…
Yesterday morning we were due to have the two eldest grandchildren, (13, and 12) but had a message to say neither of them were too good, but our youngest granddaughter, 6, would like to come instead!
The other grandson 9, would be at home with the others.
It actually was a huge help for me as I was certainly not feeling hunky dory at that point.
We had planned what to do with the others. It is now deferred. Our other granddaughter and I were going to plan a Fairy Garden to go up the top of our garden by the old Apple tree. It would be drawn and put on a plan first. (I had actually taken photos of the “site” to print out as well. )
Then drawings made of things which could go there, from a site I found on the internet, where else!
Our youngest granddaughter will also be involved once it is planned.
Stephen had planned to do some flow charts with our oldest grandson. Leading to early computer programming. (No use me doing that!).
And scones were going to be made.
Both of us involved with that process. We have enough equipment for two to bake at the same time.
I have a large plastic table cloth which goes over our dining table which can seat 8 when extended.
(And we needed it when they all lived with us for over 2 months in September 2021!)
The main photo is the smallest one of the childrens’ aprons which was washed this morning.
We bought each of them matching aprons, (according to their ages at the time). The two younger ones still like to use them.
Grandad had got all the equipment ready and the recipes to follow. Our granddaughter is a very enthusiastic baker! And Grandad the same. They made me laugh yesterday as they seemed at one point, both of them, to have their hands and fingers completely covered in sticky scone mix! It was everywhere!
Eventually I had to take B into the downstairs loo and help to wash it off in the sink.
There was so much mess on the kitchen surface but it didn’t matter as the scone mix was eventually rolled out and cut, put on to the baking sheet and into the oven.
The result was very good, and scones were consumed at snack time.
I sat with her at the table afterwards with the puzzle book, and we enjoyed it. It’s so lovely to have a conversation with her which isn’t interrupted!
She is very funny at times.
The seeds she planted in the bed near the top of the garden are now growing fast. She was pleased about that. So I’ve got a friend who is going to come and water the garden when we are away for a week,
This week is wall to wall sunshine and temperatures up to 27C by Thursday.
Our friends in Cornwall have said we are going to have good weather there when we arrive on Friday 20th..
We had a lovely walk in Sutton Park this morning. I took my crutch and carried it at first, then after awhile I would use it for a bit until I once again carried it. This is helping me to build up my confidence and strength. It was lovely to be out in bright sunshine amongst the trees once more, after coffee at the Blackroot Bistro, which isn’t far from the pool of the same name.
I’ll post a couple of photos in extras.
One of me having completed part of the walk without the crutch, and one of Langley Brook, which runs through the park.
Hope you are having summer weather where you are, unless in the Antipodes of course!s
