Stranded– No Way!!
Our walk, the third of the festival, involves a guided walk (we wouldn’t contemplate it if we were on our own) to Heston Island which becomes accessible only by foot when the tide is at its lowest. It takes a about 90 minutes to walk from the car and involves a fair bit of scrabbling over rocks, kind of awkward with a dog. We had to remove boots etc to wade across and when we got over we saw some views of the coastline not usually seen, but apart from a holiday cottage (occupied) and a small lighthouse, there wasn’t much to see. It was just the novelty of walking over that made it interesting. Another 90 minute walk back to the car with dry boots this time and we were off to Castle Douglas for our tea ingredients. We have another walk planned for the morrow at this place, but the forecast is not looking good.
