Old Gaffers Race Day

We were treated today with the magnificent sight of around two hundred Old Gaffer yachts racing around the Solent , the largest number ever gathered together at one time. This was the culmination of the Old Gaffers Association 50th Jubilee festival hosted by the Cowes Yacht Haven.

Conditions were almost perfect except for the lack of a blue sky but a brisk breeze allowed the craft to show off their spread of sails in an unforgettable display of vintage sailing. Luckily the rain held off until most of the competitors had finished and were back in harbour for a well earned final night party.

I am still processing today's pictures but just had to give this one the 'Old Master' treatment.
