Schierstein Harbour
I met my friend (and recently retired former editor) U for a walk around Schierstein harbour. It’s on the river Rhine, and was built in the 1850es as a fishing port and stopping point for rafts on their way to the Netherlands.
The main blip is a mother and chick of the Egyptian geese that have invaded most of the rivers, lakes and ponds in our area. They are an introduced species and have only arrived here a few decades ago, but their aggressive behaviour towards other geese and ducks has made them the dominant species around the harbour.
The extra collage shows the harbour, an unusual ship (a dredger) on the Rhine, and papa goose with the rest of the clutch.
