Paper Poppies

A bunch of yellow paper poppies,
crinkled edges, soft and bright,
stand like sunshine caught in stillness,
gathered in the morning light.

No scent to give, no wilt or fade,
yet something in them seems to say:
we bloom not just for fleeting days,
fresh in June as they were inf May.
