“Vivid walking”
Searching for the best word to describe a somewhat challenging but visually stunning walk our delightful Armenia guides came up with ‘vivid’. After breakfast we followed the Hidden Waterfall Trail from the 13th century Haghartsin Monastery. The waterfall was moderately interesting, accessing it was great fun and involved some nifty footwork along a narrow ledge. There was minimal risk involved but the the gushing water accentuated the thrill.
A robust lunch in a traditional guesthouse, and then a gentle walk along the Medieval Monasteries Trail connecting two abandoned monasteries – Matosavank and Jukhtakvank. Mostly deciduous woodland interspersed with swathes of buttercups and the occasional orchid. We spotted a couple of jays and a black redstart.
Back at our accommodation relatively early. Still no bag, Mariana has just given me a pair of socks with Tuesday on them. Wonderful to have clean socks post shower. And the sun is shining on the small balcony so other things should dry in time for dinner.
