Closure

I found Peanut’s remains this morning about 150 yards out in our hay field. Bad closure, but closure nonetheless. What a sad day. I wrapped her in her blanket, and carried her home. I told her, “We’re going home,” lyrics that come up in the attached song. I spent the day building her a small coffin, then digging her grave under our maple tree. I wrapped her in her blanket from on top of her cat tower, and also enclosed her two chase toys, Mick and Birdie, her rattle fish that hung from her tower, her Italian dishware, which she refused to eat from anything but, and food for her: her favorites, creamy Churru, and her favorite, Temptation Treats, better known to us as “Crunchies.” Her resting place is feet away from her beloved arbor bench, and I can see it from my living room chair. It’s also next to her favorite drinking hole, right here in the shade. I ordered a memorial stone that says, “Peanut: Fare you well, fare you well, we love you more than words can tell.”

Blip friends, you have been the majority of our support group here in our loss, and I cannot thoroughly express how much your love and support have meant. Thank you so much. This is a lesson in why we need to savor, love, and appreciate each day.

I will leave you with this favorite song of ours by the Grateful Dead, one we have leaned on in sorrowful times too many times before. “Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul.” Brokedown Palace.
