Clearing

I slept well after my exertions of yesterday, and it was not until after 11:00 that Django got his walk. I first went down to Valleyfield Pond, where there were a couple of kingfishers sitting and then darting across to a new perch. We then headed off down the old railway, and it was such a lovely morning - sunny, and warm enough to walk wearing just a teeshirt - that we kept going all the way to Roslin, before getting a bus back.

After eating, I drove into Edinburgh to get Mum's flat ready for the "man with a van" tomorrow morning. This meant chucking out a lot of things that had been kept to "decorate" the flat whilst it was for sale. In particular I took down all the pictures. Some I can remember from when I was a child, and some were (well) painted by two members of the family. I'll keep them for sentimental reasons, but there was a lot that Mum kept for sentimental reasons that was junked today. Old biology texts that had been at her side throughout her adult life, but mean nothing to me - and would be of no value to anyone else.

On my way home I called in at the storage utility where I've rented a unit. Unlocking doors is via an app on my phone, and it was far from obvious how to get the necessary connection to unlock the door, even after I'd managed it a couple of times.

It'll be such a relief to have my parents' flat cleared and sold, even if it won't represent closure on their physical lives, as the girls and I have acquired "stuff" that's of sentimental and practical value to us... Which will add to the stuff that the girls will have to clear some day.
