Well, that's the end of that then
My hairdryer has survived being left in my garage, being overheated on several occasions, carried in a motorbike pannier up and down the country, twice, but accidentally dropping it from knee height onto my bedroom carpet was just too much. On impact it responded with the most amazing shrieking, grinding sound. I've had to repair this infernal machine three times already after the motor's delicate mounts broke; the last time, I used huge quantities of Super Steel epoxy and thought I'd sorted it for good. But somehow the motor had worked loose again: just enough for the fan to contact the body if you jiggled it hard, and this time it broke two of the blades off. I had no idea that was even possible. There's no way to replace just the fan because it's crimped onto the motor spindle, and a new motor wouldn't fix the separate problem with the heating element which only has two settings, 'off' and 'surface of the sun'; the middle setting shorted itself out years ago.
I guess I'll just have to go back to my emergency backup hairdryer, which is also quite repaired. I seem to remembere its motor mounts broke too, once upon a time…
