Testing the waterproofs
It's been a bit wet in the Lake District today. Our high level walk was cancelled (50 mph winds on top) so we walked from Rydal to Grasmere over the tops. By the time we reached Grasmere our waterproofs had been well and truly tested and mostly found wanting.
We went to the cafe of the garden centre. By the time we had removed the wettest layers (!) there was a puddle around our table and extending throughout the area.......... Not a pretty sight.
The overall consensus was to return to Rydal by the coffin route after a browse around Grasmere. When the bus arrived 3 of us jumped on. It was bliss to dry off and have a hot shower (the water is still on I'm glad to say).
There was an idea that we might go walking again at 3pm but it is pouring so I think most of us will chicken out. It's all part of a holiday in the Lakes.
